A second wave of the Cambodia-Thailand war from 07 to 27 December 2025, escalating tensions at the border drew attention not just to clashes over disputed territory but also to the human cost felt in homes across Cambodia. As soldiers were called to defend their country, ordinary families stood in silent worry, never knowing who would return.
Among those who made the ultimate sacrifice was Warrant Officer Mut Saveun, a dedicated soldier who was four months pregnant when she was killed on the frontline. Her loss marked not only a life given in service to the nation, but a future that would never be realized.
This is the story of Mut Saveun—her courage, her duty, and the family she left behind.
At Boeung Trakuon in Thma Puok district of Banteay Meanchey province, where fighting turned quiet land into danger, Warrant Officer Mut Saveun stood in uniform, doing her duty. She was a Cambodian soldier. She was also four months pregnant. On 10 December 2025, she was killed on the frontline and with her, an unborn child was lost.

Mut Saveun was 43 years old and served with the Royal Cambodian Army’s Tank Battalion 67. She had spent many years in service. To her colleagues, she was strong and disciplined. To her family, she was a loving mother and a kind person who always put others before herself.
Even while carrying new life, she continued her duty. She believed in protecting her country and standing with her fellow soldiers. Her choice showed deep courage, but her death shows the heavy cost of war.
Her passing caused sadness across Cambodia. Messages of respect and sorrow came from government offices, schools and ordinary people. She leaves behind a daughter who is studying at university and a family broken by grief. In one moment, they lost a mother and a child who was never born.
Mut Saveun’s story is not only about war. It is about love, duty and sacrifice. She stood on the frontline with two hearts beating inside her. Cambodia will remember her not just as a soldier, but as a mother who gave everything for her country.
